For the 32nd ADRIQ Innovation Awards Gala, Logibec is delighted to be among the finalists in the "Innovation from Public Research" category thanks to its Logibec Redirection solution, which helps reduce emergency room overflow. Implemented in 16 hospitals and more than 120 front-line clinics, the project has already helped redirect more than 175,000 patients in Quebec and France.
The algorithm used by the solution was designed as part of the emergency room redirection project developed by Dr. Alexandre Messier, an emergency physician at the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal (HSCM).
The solution consists of a medical algorithm that safely selects patients who can be discharged from the emergency room, combined with a cloud-based application that facilitates triage by nurses and allows patients to book an appointment with a family doctor in less than 48 hours.
The process facilitates collaboration between hospitals and primary care clinics and is popular with the various stakeholders who use it, including patients. In fact, a prospective study of more than 1,000 patients revealed that:
Logibec's redirection project is one of the only ones available on the market and brings a beneficial culture change to the way patient care is delivered. It not only has a positive impact on emergency room overflow but also ensures optimal safety during triage.
Monetarily, experts believe that it costs the system 3 to 4 times more to treat the same patient in the ER than in primary care practices. Since 10% to 15% of the patients who came to the emergency room as part of the project were redirected, the project has saved the network several million dollars since its inception.
It is through continued research and efforts in technological innovation that patient management will continue to improve while adequately supporting the work of medical staff. In this spirit, we wish good luck to all the finalists and thank ADRIQ for organizing this gala!
